    Game outcomes & leaderboards

Log whether a group escaped and how fast, and how it feeds the leaderboards.

    Last updated

After a session you can log its outcome: did the group escape, and how long did they play. Players who are registered on the booking get the result on their record, and the outcomes feed the public leaderboards, escape rates and best times.

Logging is optional. This page explains the concept. For the step by step guide, including how to log results from your own system, see Logging escape times.

Turn it on for a room#

Each room has a Records escape times switch on its page under DashboardOperateRooms. It is off for a new room, and only an owner can change it. Switch it on for rooms whose results your team will log.

    Log an outcome#

Any team member can do it: hosts, admins and owners.

    1. Find the booking

After the game has started, open the booking from DashboardOperateBookings, the Calendar, or the Log outcome row on the Today page's Needs attention list.
    2. Find the Escape time section

In the booking's ticket, the Escape time section has the form. Before the game has started it says you can log how the group did once the session has started.

The Escape time section: the result and the time, in minutes and seconds.
The Escape time section of a booking ticket with Escaped, Did not escape and the time fields
    3. Say whether they escaped and enter the time

Choose Escaped or Did not escape. Enter Time (minutes) and Seconds. For a group that did not escape, the field is labelled Played for (minutes).

    4. Log result

Choose Log result. The result then shows as "Escaped in 52:10" or "Did not escape (played 60:00)", with the time it was logged.

The form is only offered for a confirmed booking in a room that records escape times, and only after the session has started.

    Who gets credited#

An outcome credits real accounts, never names typed into a form:

    • Registered players who are on the booking and have accepted their place. The player who made the booking is always one when they were signed in.
    • The team the booking was made for, if it was a team booking.

Guests added by name, and bookings made without an account or through your booking widget, credit nobody. A group of only guests builds no record, however often it plays.

Nobody's record changes because someone else said so. A booker can add another player by their player ID, but that player is only invited; they are credited once they accept. Making a team from a booking's group works the same way: the others are invited to the team. A player who declined stays declined. If someone accepts after the session, they are credited at the next recalculation of the leaderboards.

When a booking counts as played#

A booking only counts once it has been played. A booking is played when it is confirmed and either:

    Room settingIt counts as played
Records escape times: onAs soon as you log its result, or 24 hours after the session ends if nobody logs it. Without a result it counts as a room played, with no time.
Records escape times: offAs soon as the session ends. No times are kept.

A booking that is still waiting for payment, or that was cancelled, never counts. Nothing happens at the exact moment a session ends: the leaderboards are recalculated every hour, so allow a little time for a result to show up.

    How the leaderboards work#

Players see the leaderboards on the public score pad, for Teams or Players, and per region. Each line is:

    • Played: every played booking.
    • Escapes: the number of logged outcomes where the group escaped.
    • Escape rate: escapes divided by the sessions that were logged. It is not divided by all sessions played, so a venue that never logs does not make its players look like they never escape.
    • Fastest: the quickest logged escape. Someone with rooms played but no logged escape has no time yet.

The ranking is by escapes, then escape rate, then best time. The number of rooms played is shown but does not rank anyone. A player or team that loses its last credited outcome keeps its last standing.

    From your own system#

If you time your games with your own tool, it can send each result itself. That is a developer task; see Logging escape times, which covers the API call, its fields and its answers.

    Frequently asked questions#

Do I have to log outcomes?#

No. If you do not, your players still get credit for playing, just without times. Without times, your rooms add nothing to escape rates or best times.

    I logged the wrong result#

A result cannot be changed from the dashboard once it is logged.

Why does a player not see the booking on their record?#

Check that they were signed in when they booked or accepted the invitation, and that the session has passed. A guest name never gets a record.
