    Discounts

Offer a reduction on your rooms with a discount code.

    Last updated

A discount code takes a percentage or a fixed amount off the room price. A player types it into the booking form, or your booking widget sends it. You create and manage codes on the Marketing page, which also holds your gift vouchers.

Only an owner or an admin can open the Marketing page and create, pause or delete codes.

    Create a discount code#

    1. Open Marketing

Go to DashboardBusinessMarketing. The discount form is on the left, under New discount code.
      The New discount code form.
The New discount code form on the Marketing page
    2. Choose a code

Type the Code players will enter, for example ESCAPE20. It is always saved in capital letters, and players can type it in any case. It must be at least 3 characters. A code must be unique across the whole platform. If someone has taken it, you see "That code is already in use." Try another.

    3. Choose where it applies

Applies to is Whole venue (every room) or one of your rooms.

    4. Choose the type and the value

Discount type is Percentage off (then Percent off, 1 to 90) or Amount off (then Amount off (€), at least 1).

    5. Set the maximum uses

Maximum uses is how many bookings in total can use the code. It starts at 100. You can change it later.

    6. Set the expiration date

Expiration date starts at 30 days from today. It is the last day the code works: the code stays valid until the end of that day (midnight) in your venue's time zone, and stops working after that.

    7. Generate the code

Choose Generate code. The code appears in the list below and is Active straight away.

    How a player uses a code#

On the payment step of the booking form, the player fills in Discount code (optional). The price summary then shows a Discount line with the code. Through the API, the booking carries a discountCode. A booking takes one discount code.

The code is refused ("That discount code is not valid for this room.") when:

    • it does not exist, or belongs to another venue;
    • it is paused, expired, or all its uses are taken;
    • it is limited to another room.

If the last use is taken by someone else a moment before the player pays, they are told "That discount code has just run out." A use is counted when the booking is made. If the booking is cancelled, or the player never pays, the use goes back to the code.

How the discount is worked out#

    1. The discount comes off the room price: a percentage of it, or the fixed amount. It can never take the room below zero.
    2. A gift voucher, if the player has one, pays what is left of the room.
    3. The player's service fee is added at the end. Discounts and vouchers never reduce it.

The discount is yours to give: the room money you receive is the room price after the discount. You can see it on a booking's ticket, in the Money section (owners and admins only) as Room subtotal, Discount and the total, and the settlement block shows Price and You receive. See managing bookings and Connect Stripe & get paid.

    ExampleRoom €90, 10% code, €5 service fee
    Discount€9.00
    Player pays online€81.00 + €5.00 = €86.00
You receive (before Stripe's card fee on your share)€81.00

    Manage your codes#

The Discount codes list shows every code with its discount, where it applies, how many times it has been used, and whether it is Active, Paused or Expired. Choose a code to see its details:

    • Uses, as "12 of 100" with a bar.
    • Maximum uses: type a new number and choose Save to give the code more uses, or fewer. It can not go below the uses already taken.
    • Discount, Applies to and Expires in (days left; it says "Today is the last day" on the expiration date).
    • Estimated savings: what the code saved players so far. For a percentage code this is an estimate, based on an average booking of €30.

    Pause and resume#

Pause makes a code stop working at once, without losing it or its count. Resume turns it back on. Bookings already made keep their discount.

    Delete#

Delete asks you to confirm ("This can't be undone") and removes the code. Bookings made with it keep their discount.

    Frequently asked questions#

Can a player combine a discount code and a gift voucher?#

Yes. The discount comes off first, then the voucher pays the rest of the room. See gift vouchers.

Can I give a discount on the service fee?#

No. The service fee is never discounted.

Can I limit a code to certain players or dates?#

No. A code works for anyone who has it, until it expires, runs out or is paused. You choose the room and the expiration date.
